Fiction

I have been writing and selling fiction since I was a newly minted university graduate, and have over fifty stories in print as well as seven novels.

All of my novels were published by Tor.com and are available in print and electronic form. The buy buttons below tend to link to Canadian Kindle editions, but they are available in a range of formats from all the usual retailer suspects.

Novels

Gamechanger & Dealbreaker (the Bounceback)

First there was the Setback.
Then came the Clawback.

Rubi Whiting is a member of the Bounceback generation, first to be raised free of the troubles of the 21st century. A public defender, she helps troubled individuals with anti-social behavior. Then she meets Luciano Pox.
(written as L.X. Beckett)

The Hidden Sea Tales

  • Child of a Hidden Sea
  • A Daughter of No Nation
  • The Nature of a Pirate

Series page on Amazon.

One minute, twenty-four-year-old Sophie Hansa is in a San Francisco alley trying to save the life of the aunt she has never known. The next, she finds herself flung into the warm and salty waters of an unfamiliar world. Glowing moths fall to the waves around her, and the sleek bodies of unseen fish glide against her submerged ankles.

The world is Stormwrack, a series of island nations with a variety of cultures and economies—and a language different from any Sophie has heard.

Sophie doesn’t know it yet, but she has just stepped into the middle of a political firestorm, and a conspiracy that could destroy a world she has just discovered…her world, where everyone seems to know who she is, and where she is forbidden to stay.

Indigo Springs & Blue Magic (Books of Chantment)

Indigo Springs is a sleepy town… Astrid Lethewood discovers a source of magic flowing beneath her house.

As she learns to use the “vitagua” to enchant everyday items, the results seem innocent enough. A watch becomes a charm that means you’re always in the right place at the right time; a pendant enables the wearer to convince anyone of anything . . .
