Now that’s a kingfisher!

I got my first glance at a kingfisher last summer, at Burnaby Lake Regional Park. I knew they were around, of course, because Barb had shot one.

That first exciting glance was just a blur. So was my first kingfisher photo, snapped when it decided to stop and be a faraway blue blob in the middle of the lake.

Since then I’ve started seeing a female belted kingfisher in False Creek. And I think it is one, or at least that this particular individual hangs out around a certain casino there. I went looking for her the other day, and scored my first really good shots of her:
